Advantages
- Relatively painless.
- Fast correction of aesthetic dental problem compared to orthodontics (braces).
- The porcelain and the cement used in the cementing process are strong, making veneers/crowns comparable in strength to normal teeth.
- Porcelain will not decay or stain permanently, it will stay the same shade.
- When applied professionally and cared for, veneers/crowns can last for many years.
Disadvantages
- A veneer/crown cannot be repaired if it is damaged or if the gum recedes.
- Veneers/crowns tend to be relatively expensive.
- Veneers/crowns are a cosmetic solution and is not a corrective dental procedure for over- crowded, badly misaligned teeth or upper and lower teeth that do not meet evenly.
- A small amount of tooth structure will need be shaved off, to allow for adequate space and thickness of the restorations.
- The process of preparing teeth for veneers is irreversible. This means that once you have veneers, you will always need some form of restoration on those teeth.
