Inlay and Onlay Risks and Complications

As with any dental procedure, there are potential risks and complications associated with inlays and onlays, including but not limited to:

  1. Adverse reactions to anesthesia or medications.
  2. Infection.
  3. Post-operative sensitiveness or pain, which typically resolves but should be reported if persistent.
  4. Decay around the restoration, usually due to poor oral hygiene.
  5. Wear, chipping, breaking, or loosening of the inlay/onlay.
  6. Grinding of teeth, which can increase the risk of fractures.
  7. Possible need for subsequent root canal treatment.
  8. Natural teeth changing color over time.
  9. Gum recession affecting the appearance of the restoration.
  10. Inflammation or soreness of the gums or soft tissues.
  11. Altered bite sensation
