After the inlay/onlay placement, you should be able to talk and chew normally. It may take some time to adjust to the new restoration. Pay attention to the following:
- Pain Management: It's normal to experience some discomfort after the procedure. Over-the-counter pain relievers or prescription medication, if provided, can help manage pain. Follow the recommended dosage instructions.
- Oral Hygiene: Maintain good oral hygiene by gently brushing and flossing your teeth. Avoid the treated area for the first 24 hours. After that, you can resume regular brushing and flossing, but be gentle around the restoration.
- Sensitivity: Some patients may experience tooth sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures. This is usually temporary and should improve within a few days.
- Follow-Up Appointments: Attend any scheduled follow-up appointments with your dentist to ensure that the restoration is fitting correctly and there are no issues.
- Report Any Issues: If you experience severe pain, persistent bleeding, swelling, or if the restoration feels uneven or uncomfortable, contact your dentist immediately.
- Protect Your Restoration: If you grind your teeth at night, consider using a nightguard to protect your restoration and prevent damage.
- Wear a well-fitting sports mouth guard during contact sports.
- Maintain Regular Dental Check-Ups: Continue with your regular dental check-ups and cleanings to ensure the longevity of your restoration and overall oral health.
- Avoid Sticky or Hard Candies: Stay away from sticky or hard candies that can damage the restoration.
- Be Patient: It may take some time to adjust to the new restoration. If you have any concerns or questions, don't hesitate to contact your dentist.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintaining good dental health is a shared responsibility. In cases of dental neglect, disease is unavoidable. To ensure the longevity of your inlay or onlay and overall oral health, please:
- Regular Checkup and Cleaning: Bacteria builds up on your teeth naturally, which cannot completely be removed by just brushing. This causes tooth decay and gum disease. Remember to go for your 6- monthly check ups and professional cleaning at the dentist to keep your teeth healthy.
- Following Dentist's Instructions: Follow all the instructions regarding a soft diet, gum and teeth management, and care of the restoration.
- Good Oral Hygiene: Maintain good oral hygiene by brushing and flossing your teeth twice a day and following any special instructions your dentist or hygienist has given you to keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy.
- Please notify us and come in for a check immediately if you encounter any problems after the treatment. Any delay may result in more damage to the condition and potentially require more complex treatment.
