Soft Tissue Surgery Introduction
Gum tissues help support and protect the roots of our teeth. It is important to maintain them at a healthy level, to ensure that your teeth are healthy and function properly. Loss of gum tissue around your teeth can result in your teeth looking excessively long, cause them to become extremely sensitive to hot and cold temperatures, and worse still, makes it easier for bacteria to penetrate the tooth and cause decay. Severe gum loss can eventually result in your entire tooth falling out. The purpose of gingival augmentation (gum grafting) is to help recreate a layer of healthy gum tissue to restore your gums back to its normal position.
