If you've been thinking about improving the way your smile looks, you might have come across the term "veneers" multiple times. What exactly are veneers? Well, these little wonders might be just what you need to transform your teeth and boost your confidence. Let’s explore what they are, how they work and what you need to know about getting veneers in Singapore.
Teeth veneers or dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells that are designed to cover your teeth. These thin shells are made from either dental porcelain or composite resin, and they are permanently bonded to the surface of the teeth. In simple terms, it is a thin layer of a suitable dental material that is adhered to the front surface of your teeth, so as to improve the way it looks.
When you smile or talk, your front teeth are prominently visible, making them a focal point of your look. Veneers are specifically used to fix various cosmetic concerns that can affect the look of your teeth such as gaps, chips, stains or if teeth are not shaped the way you want. Dental veneers in Singapore are a popular cosmetic solution to improve the appearance of misaligned teeth.
Veneers are thin shells made from either dental porcelain or composite resin, and they are permanently bonded to the surface of the teeth. There are two main types of dental veneers: composite resin veneers and porcelain veneers.
Porcelain veneers are known for their strength and durability. The porcelain material used for dental veneers closely mimics the translucency and texture of natural teeth, giving them a realistic look. Porcelain veneers are stain-resistant and can last many years with proper care. They’re a bit more of an investment but offer excellent long-term benefits.

These are made from a resin material and offers a more affordable option. While they don’t last as long as porcelain and can stain over time, they’re a great choice if you’re looking for a quick and budget-friendly solution.

Smile Makeover: Veneers can quickly transform your smile, giving you a more even and radiant look in just a few visits.
Natural Appearance: Modern veneers, especially porcelain ones, look incredibly natural. They are able to do so by mimicking the light-reflecting properties of natural teeth.
Stain Resistance: Porcelain veneers are highly resistant to stains from foods and drinks, so you can enjoy your favourite beverages without worrying about discolouration.
Durability: With proper care, veneers can last many years, making them a worthwhile investment for a lasting smile.
Minimal Tooth Alteration: Veneers require only minimal alteration to your natural teeth as compared to dental crowns. Interested to know what are the differences between veneers and crowns? Click here to read about it.
Your dental veneer journey begins with a thorough consultation to discuss your aesthetic goals with the dentist. This initial appointment is important as not all cases are suited for dental veneers. For more complex cases such as severely crowded teeth or deep stains, your dentist might need to combine other dental treatments such as Invisalign, teeth whitening or dental crowns.
The dentist will assess your dental health by checking the condition of your teeth and gums. They will also explain the different types of veneers available and help you choose the best option according to your needs and budget.
Once you are happy with the treatment plan and decide to move forward, the teeth preparation process begins. Your dentist will grind off about 0.5mm of tooth enamel from the front surface of your teeth. This is to make space for the veneer material so that it fits snugly. The back or sides of the tooth, will not be touched so most of your tooth stays the same.
Direct Veneers: These are made right in your mouth using a tooth-coloured material called composite resin. The dentist may do this freehand or with the help of an index.
Indirect Veneers: These are made in a dental lab from materials like porcelain or composite. Your dentist will take impressions or scans of your teeth and provide you with temporary veneers while you wait for the permanent ones to be made.
At Dental Designs Clinic, all our dental veneers are fabricated in our in-house dental lab, giving us complete control over the quality and fit over your custom-made dental veneers. Having our own dental lab in the clinic means the turnaround time is greatly reduced as well! Check our our in-house dental lab here.
Once the veneers are ready, your temporary veneers will be removed and the final ones will be carefully bonded to the front of your teeth with a special dental cement.
After fitting, we’ll ensure everything feels right and make any final tweaks. You’ll also receive guidance on how to care for your new veneers to keep them looking their best.
Veneer treatments are effective in enhancing your smile and protecting your teeth, as the final veneers are designed to be permanent. With proper care, veneers can last a long time, giving you a bright and aligned smile.

Avoid Hard Foods: To prevent damage, avoid biting into hard foods like ice or nuts, especially using teeth that have veneers.
Regular Check-ups: Schedule regular visits with your dentist to monitor the condition of your veneers. It is also important to inform your dentists if you face any issues with your veneers.
Wear a night guard: Your dentist may advise you to get a night guard to protect your veneers while you sleep, especially if you have teeth grinding habit.
